Big Bunny learns a lesson

The “House Critters” Big Bunny’s Experience

The house critters are Henrietta Bobbie Bunny, Blue Booby, Big Bunny, Ducky Duck and Rainy Reindeer. They live a pampered life in the home of some very kind humans who treat them like children.

Awhile ago there were outside bunnies eating the lettuce that was planted by the garage for Henrietta and Big. He had noticed this happening again and decided he needed to explain that the lettuce in the backyard was for the house critters. Like most of us the outside bunnies ate on a regular schedule, so Big had an idea of when to watch out the dining room window for them to show up in the lettuce patch. It took a couple of days, as they didn’t always eat in the same locations, but as Big expected they showed up and started to eat the freshest lettuce leafs.

It worked out well for Big to get outside, as one of the humans had just gone out and left the kitchen and outside doors open. Big slipped out the doors and went to confront the scoundrels! Keep in mind that Big is large for an indoor bunny, but only about half the size of a full grown outdoor one, and there were five of them. He hopped up to the biggest one and began talking about why they should not be eating this lettuce. Big did not know that this was the mother rabbit and she had lots of experience dealing with those not knowledgeable in the ways of the outdoors. She looked at him and listened politely to his telling them that this lettuce was planted by the humans for the two bunnies that lived in the house, not for outside critters. Big thought that should take care of the issue and started to go back to the house, when she asked him to hear what she had to say.

Mother rabbit had them all sit in a circle and ask Big if he and the other critters from the house had ever gone past the fence to eat in the clearing or the woods. Big said, “We do that a lot; there are many things that taste good outside the yard.” She replied, “Mother Nature plants and grows that food for the outside critters and actually takes care of growing everything for everybody, even the humans.” If Big did not want to share what was in the back yard, then they would not eat it, but they were ok with the house critters’ eating what was outside of it.”

This was not what Big had expected and it took him a few seconds to completely understand what she told him. He had never thought about the situation from her point of view and realized what he wanted was very selfish. It was a very apologetic Big that let her know he was now very sorry to have even thought about, let alone brought up the matter. He wanted to slink away into the house and spend some time alone thinking about actions he had taken from others point of view. He nodded to the outside bunnies and started to go when mother rabbit told him her children’s names and ask him to stay and play with them for awhile. He had a great time playing tag along with Hide & Seek and decided the rest of the house critters needed to know what he had just learned about getting along!
